The Pantages
Theatre has become the crown jewel of Hollywood's theater scene.
It was built in 1930, which hosted the Academy Awards from 1949
to 1959-underwent a year-long renovation starting in September 1999.
The Pantages got much brighter as well, as 78 new art deco style
lighting fixtures were added to the interior (including three huge
chandeliers for the grand lobby, which an additional 775 light bulbs
brightened the theater entrance.
Lite makers replicated existing cast art deco designs over 70 years
old. The existing lobby chandeliers were taken from the theatre
in 1950 when Howard Hughes owned it. In order to replicate these
items we went to the archives of the LA Public Library, from Micro
film of past events at the Pantages we were able to replicate these
fixtures to their original design state. The fixtures replicated
in this theatre won several architectural awards including the Los
Angeles Conservancy Preservation Award.
